NOUN is a womenswear house in Berlin. Every piece is cut, sewn and finished by hand in Poland, in finite runs, from deadstock cloth — fabric that already exists and would otherwise have been destroyed. A run ends when the roll ends. Nothing is reordered.

The cloth
All deadstock. European leather. Italian jacquard from a Como mill whose looms have not changed since 1801. French toile de jouy from the Loire valley. Italian crinoline tulle, worked without interfacing, because the structure is meant to be the fabric and not the support.
Someone made the cloth. Someone else decided they did not need it. That is where a NOUN piece begins.
The capsules
Each is named for the year of the cloth, in Roman numerals: MMXVII jacquard, MMXIX sheer, MMXXI navy leather, MMXXIII toile de jouy, MMXXIV black, MMXXV light blue leather, MMXXVI black leather outerwear.
The four passages
Every silhouette carries a stage of the same journey — the mask, the ashes, the feathers, the water. Identity shed so truth can be seen. Purification through fire, because what burns is what was borrowed. Freedom born from destruction. And the return to the source, when everything else has disappeared.
They are not decoration on the clothes. They are the order in which the clothes were made.
How to write the name
NOUN in capitals, always. The legal entity is Noun Perspective GmbH i.G. — the addition i.G. (in Gründung) stands until the company is entered in the commercial register, and should be kept.
Capsule names are Roman numerals without a space: MMXVII, not MM XVII.

Interviews and the atelier
